I started my fitness journey in July of 2012. I always worked out at various health clubs and paid over $1000 a year in downtown Chicago, where I lived at the time. I moved to the suburbs and joined a gym that cost $10/month. After a few weeks at the gym, I was on the treadmill next to a guy who was wearing jeans and talking on his cell phone, walking at about a 1.0 pace. I wasn't motivated at all by this place and there was nothing fun about it. I felt like year after year I was spinning my wheels trying to get results. I wasn't over weight but I could stand to lose a few pounds. Mainly, so that I'd stop complaining about how this or that doesn't fit the way I want it to. Most women complain about their bodies but I was working out 3-5 days at the gym, spending entirely too much money on health clubs, and seeing zero results.
In the meantime, my friend Carrie (who is now my coach) sent me a packet of a protein shake to try. It was called Shakeology and I had never heard of it before. Carrie knew I was into fitness and thought I might like to try this one. I opened the packet, and made it according to her specific instructions, and I loved it. Previous to that, I was a protein shake junkie. Buying whatever was on sale at GNC or Sam's Club. I wasn't sure if these shakes were working, I never felt any differently taking them. I didn't even really know what it was supposed to do. I was just doing what everyone else did.
Fast forward a few weeks, I found myself watching the Insanity informercial endlessly. I was afraid of it. But after watching it day after day and googling it to death, my thoughts were, "If these people could do it, why not me?" My problem with committing was that I was a gym rat. You want results, you go to the gym. Working out at home reminded me of Jane Fonda, Richard Simmons, or Billy Blanks Tae Bo! At home workouts, (from what I knew), didn't work.
Not long after, Carrie asked me if I wanted to join a challenge group on Facebook. My first thought was, "what the heck is a challenge group?" She explained that it's a private group of people all supporting each other online while we go thru a Beachbody workout. I learned that I could buy Insanity from her and join her group and there would be others just like me in it. I was very skeptical (because I didn't have an extra dollar to my name and quite honestly, I was in some pretty good credit card debt), but she told about the no-risk return policy. If I didn't like it or didn't see results, I'd return it. That added the layer of comfort that I needed because I knew that home workouts didn't work but I wanted to see for myself.
I purchased Insanity, got it in the mail, opened the box like a kid on Christmas, and read the nutritional guide cover to cover. I was ready. I took my before pictures which about made me want to vomit, and I took my measurements. We started on a Monday and within 14 days, I saw more results than I had in 10+ years at the gym. I was hooked. I got up each and every morning to get my workout done. They were hard. Really hard. Like the hardest workout I've ever done type of hard. It was just as much of a mind workout as it was a physical workout and I became addicted to the euphoric feeling that I had. I added Shakeology into my diet and that's where the magic happened. I felt amazing. I had so much energy it was ridiculous. The increase in confidence I had was something I'd never experienced before. I kept flexing my new muscles in disbelief.
After all was said and done, I was able to lose 13lbs and 12in in 60 days. The results were like nothing I had every achieved before. I wanted to share the feeling I had with others and help them get in crazy good shape too. Plus I was broke! It made sense for me to share my results and make money for helping others! Plus I didn't want to pay full price for Shakeology and the discount certainly helps!
Since then, I've helped many people get into the best shape of their lives. I've made new friends from all over the world that I've never even met! I've started to create a team community that I built from scratch, just by sharing my story to others. I've started to build a nice business for myself and I absolutely LOVE helping others do what I do. I've paid off all my credit card debt, paid off my car, paid a CASH downpayment for my new car, and I actually contribute weekly to a savings account. I've learned to set goals for myself which is something I never did before. I have HUGE scary goals for 2015, and I can't wait to see what's next!
Thanks for reading my bio. If you find that this resonates with you, let's talk. I've never felt better, I'm much more positive and I no longer let things get me down, I'm in the best shape of my life in my 40's, and I am creating a better life for those around me. Beachbody has shown me all of this. I cringe to think where I might be today if I didn't drink that shake packet that my coach sent me in the mail.
Best,
Coach JT
